International Cultural Exchange

MIRIAD has been making academic and cultural links with China during 2007 as mentioned above. In addition, we have agreed formal Memoranda of Understanding with Peking University, Tsing Hua University and the National Academy of Art, Beijing. Li Wenxuan, is an artist and traditional Chinese painter. He is visiting MIRIAD in Manchester from our good friends at Xiamen Art School in South East China and will be giving a lecture, at MMU as a part of the 'Tales from a Chinese Garden' about traditional Chinese landscape painting.

Over the past eighteen months, John Hyatt has also pursued musical collaborations with Chinese traditional and contemporary musicians in Xiamen and Guangzhou. This has involved performances at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, and also in China. He even opened one of our MIRIAD exhibitions, 'Made in Manchester' at the Chinese Profile Art Museum, Xiamen City, in November by singing a duet in Chinese with Mongolian folksinger, Mudan (appropriately her name means 'Peony'). We are pleased that musician Jiang Shu will be playing traditional Chinese music in the garden every afternoon.
