Summer 2006

The department has been buzzing with activity over the last few months as both the Invest to Save and Arts for Health team juggle their activity. The research element of the project has been granted university ethical approval for its research protocol and is awaiting the results of it’s submission for COREC ethical approval. Once secured, it will ensure our research methodology is robust and watertight.

Our relationship with the BBC and National Institute for Mental Health in England, North West (NIMHE) resulted in a stunning radio drama, written by award winning writer, Amanda Dalton being broadcast on Radio 4 on January 21st. The play; STRIKE, explored the issue of self harm and relationships within the family. Details of the broadcast can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/fridayplay/pip/d2awx/

NIMHE and the ISP team are planning to facilitate some sessions with people affected by self-harm, using the play to explore the role of drama and the media on public attitudes and behaviour.

Plans are being made for the dissemination of our work in 2007 and a World Symposium is planned for April 2007 following on from the CHARTS 99 conference. A significant strand of next years conference will focus on research and evidence. Check out this site and the Arts for Health site for regular updates.
