ART LOVES SCIENCE
THE MIRIAD PROJECT 2

A meeting of minds from art and science.
A Knowledge Capital Initiative.

Wednesday 14th February 2007
9.30am - 12.30pm

Manchester Metropolitan University, Ormond Building Council Chamber, Lower Ormond Street, Manchester M15 6BX

The MIRIAD Project invites academics and practitioners working in a wide variety of cultural and scientific fields to engage in debate. The focus will be the city and channels for debate and communication. Examples of successful collaborations will be presented and the debate will concentrate on practical and pragmatic suggestions for how to maximise the opportunities for collaborative trans-disciplinary investigation.

"MIRIAD has a philosophy of open-minded inquiry, recognising that it is possible that our hierarchies and our specialist languages can form barriers to the development of knowledge. The schism between art and science cannot but be such a barrier. I firmly believe that the next level of human development will be achieved by a love affair between science and art, equal but different: Knowledge plus Imagination equals Understanding". Professor John Hyatt, Director of MIRIAD

Participants include:

  • Roger Milburn, Arup
  • Dr Cathy Garner, Director of Manchester Knowledge Capital
  • Lyn Barbour, Director of Creative Industries Development Service (CIDS)
  • Professor Maureen Neal, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dean of Science and Engineering, MMU
  • David Briggs, David Briggs, Director of the CONTACT Partnership
  • Dr Peter Rowlands, The University of Liverpool

The MIRIAD Project Launch Event, Knowledge + Imagination = Understanding, of September 20th 2006 proved to be a great success - further information about this event is available.
