European Nightmares – A Virtual International Conference on European Horror Cinema

This conference, conceived by the Group for the Study of Images, Narratives and Cultures (MIRIAD, Manchester Metropolitan University) in collaboration with Cornerhouse offered a platform to explore differences and similarities between European horror traditions.
The conference attracted extensive academic and media interest including, coverage in the Manchester Evening News and on Radio Manchester. It was a truly international event with delegates from Germany, Australia, Canada, America, France, Italy, Malta, Spain and Belgium. Papers addressed a wide range of topics many of which were filmed by TMF and are available online.
The conference included the screening of Fabrice du Welz's Calvaire (2004) at Cornerhouse. The film was introduced by the acclaimed horror writer Ramsey Campbell.
