Not A 'Clog' To Progress (Cotton Factory Times, 6 October 1910)

Constructing his cartoons around objects that were part of the culture of Textile Lancashire was a feature of Fitton's work. Here Common Sense personified as 'Old Lancashire' is shown using that essential Lancashire institution – the clog – to kick out of the industry the problems of inferior cotton in the spinning room, steaming in the weaving shed, dust in the cardroom, and the general problem of malingering (greedy hogs).
